Letlhakeng Nature Reserve Campsite Rules and Policies
1. Littering: Dispose of litter only in designated refuse places and bins. If no such sites are available, please take your litter out of the park to maintain the natural beauty and cleanliness of the reserve.
2. Respect for Wildlife and Visitors: Do not harass wild animals or other visitors. Hunting is strictly prohibited to ensure the safety and well-being of both wildlife and visitors.
3. Vehicle Restrictions: Only Off-road vehicles are allowed (4WD) but are strictly prohibited from trailing off trails to protect the park's natural environment and minimise disturbance to wildlife. Any vehicle found parked outside the trail or trailing through vegetation will be stopped and charged by the park.
4. Vegetation Protection: Cutting or damaging any vegetation within the park is not allowed. Help us preserve the park's flora by respecting all plant life.
5. Entrance Permits: A valid entrance permit issued by the officer in charge is required before entering the park, including overnight permits and applicable fees. Permits are subject to park regulations, and all visitors must register required details at the entrance point to avoid refusal of entry.
6. Designated Entry and Exit Points: Enter and exit the park only through designated gates or roads marked by signs. This helps manage and monitor visitor movement for safety and conservation purposes.
7. Age Restrictions: Persons under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. This ensures the safety and supervision of younger visitors.
8. Identification and Documentation: Carry necessary identification such as Omang (National ID), passport, drivers license or a tourism enterprise license. Failure to produce these may result in charges at non-residential and highest vehicle rates.
9. Park Hours: Entry and exit are only permitted between sunrise and sunset. Exceptions include visitors who have booked for an overnight campsite and must provide proof of booking, participation in an approved night safari with a professional guide, which must return by 22:00 hrs, written authorisation from the director, or a valid filming or research permit allowing operation outside regular hours.
10. Self-Drive Access: The park is accessible for self-drive visitors with a reliable 4WD vehicle. Ensure your vehicle is equipped to handle the park’s terrain.
11. Camping Facilities: Each campsite includes a shower and a pit latrine toilet. There is no running water at the campsites, so visitors should bring enough drinking water and containers for collecting water at the main entrance gate or at the parks restaurant.
12. Cellular Coverage: There is no network coverage in the park. It is advisable to use a satellite phone for communication.
13. Entrance Gate Times: The entrance gate opens at 06:00 am and closes at 18:30 pm. Plan your arrival and departure accordingly.
14. Firewood: Collecting wood from the park is not allowed. Please purchase your firewood beforehand to ensure you have adequate supplies for your stay.
15. Fuel: There are no fuel supplies within the reserve. Ensure you have enough fuel for your entire trip, with the last fuel stop available at the nearby village of Letlhakeng.
16. Game Drives: Night drives are prohibited unless participating in an approved night viewing safari with a professional guide.
17. Supplies: Basic supplies and drinks are available in the small village of Letlhakeng before entering the park. There are no shops (except the parks restaurant) within the reserve, so bring all necessary provisions.
18. Water: There is no running water at the campsites. Tank water is available at the entrance gate or restaurant as well as containers to carry water (but it is advisable to bring your own and borrowed containers must be returned) for cooking, bathing, and washing, but visitors should bring enough drinking water for their stay. Use containers to transport water from the entrance gate to your campsite.
